HOMER, LA: Funeral services will be held for Larry W. White, 68, at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. R.B. Moore, officiating. Interment will follow at Tulip Cemetery near Athens. The family will receive friends at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 3647 Hwy. 146, Homer on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. Mr. White was born March 16, 1946 in Minden to Lawrence William White and Elvie Prince White. He entered into rest on Friday, July 11th in Dallas, TX following a brief illness. Mr. White was a 1964 graduate of Homer High School and received his BA in Math and a MS in Science from LA Tech. He taught 2 years at Haynesville before moving to Claiborne Academy where he spent the next 10 years teaching, coaching and instilling leadership as Principal. In 1980, he went to work for the education department of Wade Correctional Center where he stayed until he retired. He was active in the community and served as secretary-treasurer of Tulip Cemetery and served on the board of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved to hunt, fish and work in his garden but his pride was his two grandchildren, Braden and Aubrie. Mr. White was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Wayne White and also his father, Lawrence White. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marinda McKinney White; one daughter, Karen White Dickson; his mother, Elvie Prince White; and one sister, Robin White, all of Homer; one brother, Eddie White and wife, Emilie of Quitman; two grandchildren, Braden and Aubrie Dickson; a very special friend, Sam Dowies as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be Norman Murphy, Clint Faulk, Terry Dobbins, Richard Cormier, David Lester and Bo Lester. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Bailey, Roderick Cook, G.W. Zachary, Eddie Ralph Harmon, Ryan Harmon, Joe Tuggle, Kenneth Volentine and Leamen Clements. For friends considering memorials honoring Mr. White, his family suggests the Tulip Cemetery Association, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
