Funeral services for Laura Powell Daniels, 68, will be held at 2:00 p.m., January 20, 2018 at Calvary United Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until service time at the church. Long-time friend of the Daniels family, Reverend D. G. Hargrove of Garland, Texas will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Old Bethel Cemetery near Natchitoches, LA.
Born July 19, 1949 in Flagstaff, AZ to Grady and Margie Powell, Laura was the second daughter, completing the Powell family circle. In 1970, Miss Laura Powell became Mrs. Cecil Daniels. Cecil Daniels was the love and light of her life. In the first decade of their marriage, she wore the many hats that define the role of pastor's wife in Campti, Louisiana and Starkville, Ms. Then, in 1980, Cecil and Laura Daniels accepted the pastorate of Calvary United Pentecostal Church, a calling they filled together until the untimely death of her husband in the summer of 2014. From then until a few days ago, Laura Daniels continued to serve the people of Calvary UPC in her new role as Pastor's mother, when their son, Andy, was elected to the pastorate following his dad's death.
From 1992 to 2007, Cecil Daniels served as the Louisiana District's Director of Sunday School. During those years, Laura was ever at his side, present at everything from Crusader/Kids Camps to committee meetings and statewide rallies. She and Brother Daniels, in this role, also became the champions of Single Adult Ministry in the Louisiana District. They both had a heart for people, and a special affinity for the hurting.
Anyone who knew her will tell you how truly extraordinary Laura Daniels really was. Laura was an exceptional woman of God, loving God and loving people, teaching His Word, and living it out every day. She was unbelievably gifted in so many areas it would be a hard choice to say what it was she was best at - except she was best at being undeniably Laura. She could make you laugh and she could make you cry - either way, she was with you all the way. She was a gifted artist, a talented designer, seamstress, and decorator. She was a noteworthy writer and speaker, matchless at weaving a tale and masterful at telling a story. She was a singer and musician with the heart of a worshiper. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a mother-in-law, a grandmother, a pastor's wife, and a friend. She will be missed in a million ways.
Laura Powell Daniels passed from this life to the next on Friday, January 12, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Margie Powell and her beloved husband, Cecil Daniels. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Timothy Daniels and wife, Misti; Anthony Daniels and wife, Glenda. There are four grandchildren: Emerson, BrookLyn, Rory, and Anthony who will never forget they had a Maymie who loved them beyond measure. Ruth Anne (Powell) Goff will cherish the memories of her one and only sister, as will her children LaSan, Ginger, and Aaron. There are extended members of the family - of both Cecil and Laura - who were privileged to have her in their lives. And then, there are countless people who were blessed to call her friend, whose lives were graced by the sound of her laughter, and the strength of her love. As was said of Cecil Daniels at the time of his death, paraphrased here about his wife, Laura: "The Calvary Pentecostal Church family will forever honor the memory of this Godly and righteous woman who served them as their Pastor's wife, and lived as their friend."
The Daniels family would like to especially thank Dr. Rick Michael for his attentive care. The family would like to thank the host of people who prayed for them - and for Laura - during this time, who will continue to pray for them in the days to come.
