LONGSTREET, LA - Lawrence Alton Bagley, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 3, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Rose-Neath Chapel in Logansport, LA with Dr. Doug Allen, pastor of Blanchard First Baptist officiating. Interment will follow at Longstreet Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Southside Rose-Neath funeral home in Shreveport, LA.
Lawrence was born January 23, 1928 in Longstreet, LA to Lula and Levi Banker Bagley. He was a graduate of Longstreet High School and attended Centenary College of Louisiana. Lawrence, affectionately known as "Buddy" owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. He also served DeSoto Parish as a school board member for 24 years. From 1973-74 he served as president of the Louisiana School Board Association. Lawrence received recognition as an Outstanding American in the South, was listed among Who's Who in Louisiana, and honored in Personalities of the South in 1975-76 for his past achievements and outstanding service to his community and state. He was also named as an Honorary Member of the LA State Senate in 1957. Lawrence was a member of the Longstreet Methodist Church for many years having served as a song leader and Sunday School teacher. After moving to Blanchard in 2008 Lawrence became a member of Blanchard first Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leslie Bagley, sisters Lucille Denison and Louise Bagley. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Sally Pattison Bagley, brother Leon Bagley and wife Doris, children Larry Bagley, Pat Bagley and wife Nancy, Kathryn Bagley-Whitson and husband Harry, Alan Bagley and wife Sissy; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
