Lawrence Peter (Larry) McGowan

Lawrence Peter (Larry) McGowan passed away Oct. 14, 2016 after a lengthy life lived to the fullest. He was born Sept. 25, 1932 in Boston, MA. After graduating from Hyde Park High School in 1950, he joined the USAF and served his country in Korea. Upon discharge, he settled in Bossier City. He was married to Jeanne Marie Wallace, the love of his life, for 55 years until her death in 2009. They raised 8 sons together, including 3 stepsons. He spent the last four years of his life with his treasured friend, Wanda Allen, who stood by his side and cared for him until he moved to Pilgrim Manor in July. Larry enjoyed a long career in the automobile business, selling Volkswagens and Chevrolets. He retired from Chevy Land as Lease Manager. Larry never met a stranger and had many friends. He was proud of his Irish heritage and hosted a St. Patrick\'s Day Party for 29 years where many tall tales were told. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mabel McGowan; sons Christopher, Steven and Matthew McGowan and Joe, Pat and Bobby Brennan; siblings Marie, Donald, and Ann. He is survived by sons Larry and John, one sister, Judie Vroman and husband Ed, and daughter-in-law Linda Jones and husband Doug; grandchildren Mark and Paige Brennan, Wendy Brennan Moore and Amanda Queen; great grandchildren Jackson, Spencer, Michael, Madeline, Parker, Lydia, and Katelyn. He was also well blessed with many McGowan nieces and nephews and Doug\'s daughters Anna and Amy and their families. Larry was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a Lay Eucharistic Minister. A funeral mass was conducted for both Larry and his son, Chris, who died on Oct. 11, 2016, by Father Karl Daigle at Christ the King on Oct. 15, 2016. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20th at 1:00 pm at Northwest LA Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA with a reception following at the Knights of Columbus Hall on E. Texas in Bossier City. Please come by and share a memory.
