Lela Durr

Robeline, LA - A graveside service celebrating the life of Lela Downs Durr, 92, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 5th, 2020 at Beulah Cemetery near Marthaville, LA. Services were directed by Rose-Neath Funeral Homes of Coushatta with Reverend Mark Megason officiating. Mrs. Lela was born on March 28, 1928 in Marthaville, LA to Jewel Benjamin Downs and Effie Shoemaker Downs. She died peacefully at her daughter's home on Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Barnett Robinette Durr, her parents, brother Paul Downs, and four sisters-Alice Durr, Retha Lauw, Janel Beryl, and Alma Jean Gillespie. She is survived by her son Russell Durr and wife Lynn of Marthaville, two daughters: Diane Dinkins and her husband Marvin of Grand Cane, and Robin Jones and husband Dyron of Robeline. She had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Lela loved her nieces and nephews dearly. Mrs. Lela was definitely a Proverbs 31 woman who saw to the ways of her household. She was humble and saw that she placed her family's needs above her own. To her family her price was far above rubies. Her children arise and call her blessed. She was a woman of great faith. Lela is now a member of the "great cloud of witnesses" mentioned in Hebrews 12:1. She came home with hospice care, but God gave her the rest she needed. His peace surrounded her and she never had to use any of the medication that was provided. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Carter and all of the staff at Christus Coushatta, Specialty Rehabilitation Hospital in Coushatta, and Hospice of Natchitoches. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children's Home in Ruston or the Beulah Cemetery Fund.
