Leman Ray Sullivan, Sr.

Leman Ray Sullivan Sr., 85, moved his residence to Heaven on March 9th, 2015 where he now LIVES with his Lord and Savior. Born on March 20, 1929 to Charles Henry Sullivan and Florence Weaver Sullivan in Ashland, LA. He is preceded in death by both parents: Charles & Florence Sullivan of Springhill, LA; siblings: Walter Sullivan of Springhill, LA., Geneva Sullivan Burrell of Sarepta, LA., Evelyn Sullivan Dennis of Cotton Valley, LA., Hershel & Elton Sullivan of Campti, LA., Alton Sullivan of Springhill, LA.; one son: Charles Allen Sullivan of Homer, LA., and a great grandson: John Paul Sullivan. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years: Peggy Long Sullivan of Benton, Ar., grateful children: Eyllane Sullivan, Ray Sullivan, and John Sullivan & wife: Terri, all of Benton, AR., and Mike Sullivan & wife: Penny of Paris, TX., daughter-in-law: Merri Sullivan of Benton, AR., devoted grandchildren: Mandy, Charlie, Lee, Kerry, Mark, Brandon, Hannah & Savannah, great-grandchildren: Aaliyah, Dillon, Beverly, Brylee, Larene, Nevaeh, Annaliegh, Trinity, Brayden, Ciera, Nevaeh, Elijah, Calianne and a host of extended family and friends. Dad worked the cotton fields as a young boy in Louisiana with the rest of his family before moving to Springhill, LA., around 1937. He graduated from Springhill High School in 1947 when there were only 11 grades. Dad served his tour of duty as a Corporal in the US Army from 2-15-1951 to 2-17-1953 during the Korean Conflict Era. As a carpenter with the 969 Engineering Battalion he helped build an army base near Salzburg, Austria. On December 13, 1956 he married Peggy Jean Long and together they made their home and raised 5 children in Springhill, LA. In 1967 dad accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and never wavered in his faith. His favorite verses are: John 3:16 & John 14:1-3. Dad was a talented carpenter and built homes for several family members. He also had a 40 year career of driving 18 wheelers across country; 20 of those years were as a team with his wife. He finally retired at 80 years old. Dad moved from Campti, LA. with his wife to Arkansas in 2000 to be closer to children & grandchildren who know him as "papa". Papa enjoyed supporting family by attending ball games, one-act plays, and music concerts. His favorite pastimes include fishing, wood-working, gardening, reading Louis L 'Amour books and watching John Wayne movies. Some of the things papa will be remembered for are his loyalty, quick comical wit, easy going spirit and his positive steadfast faith. In Coushatta Louisiana visitation will be at Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Home from 3 to 6 pm Sunday March 15, 2015 with a Memorial service at 2 pm Monday March 16, 2015 followed by a grave side service at Ramah Cemetery Ashland, LA. A memorial service will be at 1 pm on Wednesday March 18, 2015 at New Life Baptist Church Alexander, Arkansas. The family will be accepting visitors at their home Saturday afternoon March 17th.
