Dad served his tour of duty as a Corporal in the US Army from 2-15-1951 to 2-17-1953 during the Korean Conflict Era. As a carpenter with the 969 Engineering Battalion he helped build an army base near Salzburg, Austria.
On December 13, 1956 he married Peggy Jean Long and together they made their home and raised 5 children in Springhill, LA. In 1967 dad accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and never wavered in his faith. His favorite verses are: John 3:16 & John 14:1-3.
Dad was a talented carpenter and built homes for several family members. He also had a 40 year career of driving 18 wheelers across country; 20 of those years were as a team with his wife. He finally retired at 80 years old.
Dad moved from Campti, LA. with his wife to Arkansas in 2000 to be closer to children & grandchildren who know him as "papa".
Papa enjoyed supporting family by attending ball games, one-act plays, and music concerts. His favorite pastimes include fishing, wood-working, gardening, reading Louis L 'Amour books and watching John Wayne movies. Some of the things papa will be remembered for are his loyalty, quick comical wit, easy going spirit and his positive steadfast faith.
