Lena Henley "Granny" went to be with her Lord on August 30, 2017 following a short illness, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 20, 1921 in Cherokee County, Texas to the late Isaiah Creel and Essie Efner Creel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 48 years, Edgar Alton Henley "Hap"; children, Georgie Mae Branch and Essie Ruth Carter; son in law, Stanley Carter; brothers, James Creel, George Creel and Edward Creel. She is survived by sons, Edgar A. Henley Jr. (Glenda) of Stonewall, LA, Louis Leon Henley (Judy) of Shreveport, LA, Dr. Johnny Ray Henley ("Lou") of Fayetteville, AR and Bobby H. Henley (Rena) of Keatchie, LA; son in law, Donald Branch; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, along with many friends and relatives.
Lena was a stay at home wife and mother for most of her life. Her first and only job outside of the home was at Christian Life Tapes and Books where she was employed for 20 years. She was a loving Christian lady who demonstrated the love of Christ to family and friends alike. She loved spending time with friends and family, loved to laugh, and always had a hug for everyone. She touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed.
Granny was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Stonewall, LA. Visitation will be Friday, September 1 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside. Services honoring her memory will be held at Rose-Neath Southside on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow services at Forest Park West Cemetery. Her son, Brother Bob Henley will officiate, assisted by Brother Mike Hawkins.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Johnny Ray Henley Jr., Tony Henley, Bobby Henley Jr., Jason Henley, David Branch and Ricky Hutchinson.
