Leonard Wayne Hennigan

Services celebrating the life of Leonard Wayne Herrigan, 85, will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Dr. Pat Day. Interment will follow at Forest Park West with military honors. Visitation with the family will be Friday, October 6, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Wayne was born May 28, 1932 in Pleasant Hill, LA to Hattie and Dewey Hennigan. He went to be with his Lord on October 4, 2017. Wayne graduated from Northwestern State University where he received a Masters Degree. He also attended Peabody College in Tennessee for further studies. He taught and coached basketball at Mansfield High School for the first two years of his career in education. For thirty two years, he was a teacher, counselor, assistant principal at Captain Shreve and principle in in Caddo Parish. Because of his outstanding service in the field of education, Northwestern State University inducted him into The Hall of Distinguished Educators. Wayne proudly served in the United States and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a lone time dedicated member of First United Methodist Church. Over the years he served as chairman on the Church Council, The Building and Grounds Committee and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. Wayne was also an active member of the Co-Wed Sunday School Class. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joleen Hennigan; brother, Raymond Hennigan and sister Jane Ingram. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Lottie; brothers, Thomas Hennigan and Randall Hennigan and many other family member of lives he touched. Wayne was the picture of a true Christian man. He was kind, caring, considerate and never found fault in anyone or anything. Above all he loved God, his family and his church. He loved telling tales of growing up in Marthaville, you were always left with a smile on your face at his quick wit and sense of humor. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Joe Bill Ingram, Richard Hennigan, Tommy Hennigan, Patrick Eason, Lucas Sepulvado and Tom Henry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Shreveport, LA.
