Leonard Rice Jr.

Leonard Rice Jr. 1st SGT USMC (Retired), 80, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018. Leonard was born in Hazard, KY to Leonard Rice and Eva Milton Rice on July 6, 1937. Leonard is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, of 60 years, Janice of Shreveport, LA; son, Stephen Rice of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Teresa Rose McCrary of Georgetown, TX; two grandchildren, Christopher Rice from Dallas, TX and Micah Stephens from Cedar Park, TX; sisters, Margie Turner, Norma Maze and Gloria Griffin. Serving in the Marine Corp for 20 years, two-time combat veteran, he then settled in Shreveport where he was a self-taught carpenter. He loved the creative business of renovating homes. Leonard never met a stranger, was a friend to everyone he met and would talk your ear off. He had a great smile and a big heart. Loved his family fiercely. Services will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Brother Ernie Fegley officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at 11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held with military honors at 2:00 PM at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
