Leslie FitzGerald was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 2,1962, second daughter of Hugh and Winona Ward. From a young age, Leslie had a soft heart for animals of all kinds. She had been known to surreptitiously sneak hamsters or guinea pigs from the pet store under her bed, or "rescue" tortoises from the road into her garden. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1980, and NSU in 1984. Always actively learning, she had a Masters in Library Science and worked at the LSUHS Medical Library for a few years, then went back to school at LSU-BR and obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She worked as an emergency vet at various clinics in Texas, then opened a small animal practice on Benton Rd. in Bossier City, where she was a beloved doc to many people's pets.
Leslie is preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by siblings, Beth Ward, Fletcher Ward, Sara Ward, and her niece and nephew, CJ (Erik Kenney) and Max (Lindsey) Grabenstein. She is also survived by her two large dogs, Noodles and Butterbean, who loved her unconditionally and whom she loved so very much. Despite some serious health challenges in her later years, she always kept her robust sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to, CADA of NW Louisiana 2000 Fairfield Ave., Shreveport, LA 71104 or the animal rescue of your choice. There will be no memorial service.
