Lessie May Whittington

SHREVEPORT, LA - A graveside service for Lessie May Gibson Whittington, 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2017 at Forest Park West Cemetery, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Jay Valentine. Lessie was born July 23, 1928 in Butler, AL and passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 in Shreveport, LA. She married Edwin G. Whittington December 21, 1946 and they spent almost 50 years together until his death in October 1996. She was a lifelong military wife who lived on bases from Maine to Hawaii. They eventually settled and made their home in Bossier City. Lessie was a former hairdresser and bus driver who made the best fried chicken and divinity this side of the Mississippi River! Lessie loved her church and listening to the choir. Left to cherish her memory are three sons, John Whittington and wife, Kay, Jerry Whittington, and Paul Whittington and wife, Lisa; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 920 Pierremont Road, Suite 300, Shreveport, LA 71106 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
