Linda Rae Roy Hitchcock was born April 17, 1949 to Clenie and Ellene DuMain Roy in Shreveport, LA. She passed on to a better life on September 17, 2023 at her home. She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport. She attended Caddo Parish public schools, and later acquired a M.Ed.
Linda only had one job and one employer for her entire working career. She taught first grade for thirty-three years. But it was not a job; it was her calling in life. She loved each and every one of those children, and they knew it. Linda was widely recognized as a reading specialist, both by training and experience, and produced first graders who could read well and were ready to learn. She took great pride in her work.
She was first and foremost dedicated to her family. She took great care of her parents in their declining years and was totally dedicated to her husband and her two sons. Then came Peyton, Madison, and Sophia. They were the loves of her life, and she was most happy when around them. She and Miles first met in 1955 while sitting next to him in first grade. She loved him dearly and supported him in every way throughout a wonderful nearly fifty-year marriage. Linda was a person of great faith and worked hard to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in this world. She loved the Lord and was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church.
Linda was preceded in death by her wonderful parents and her oldest son, Bryan Thomas Hitchcock. Bryan is now back in his mother’s arms again! She is survived by her husband, Miles, the love of her life and her ever-present supporter; her fine son, Jeffrey Michael Hitchcock, and Jeff’s wife, Brandi, who she viewed as the daughter she never had; and those wonderful grandchildren, Peyton, Madison, and Sophia. She also leaves behind her cousins, who she remained close to throughout her life. It was indeed “A Wonderful Life.”
A memorial service will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
