Linda Faye Bonds Whittington was born to Albert Bonds from Derry, Louisiana and Bertie Mae Flowers Bonds from Vicksburg, Mississippi on August 23, 1944, residing in Greenwood, Louisiana. She passed away on September 24, 2023, at creation hour at 4:06 a.m. as the rolling thunder came through at 7:06 a.m.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bertie Bonds; and her brothers, Joe Henry Smith, Albert Reid Bonds, Dorsey Monroe Bonds, and Will McGee Smith. Left to cherish her memory include her sister, Doris Brumble and husband Ted of Tyler, TX son, John Michael Whittington, Jr. of Greenwood, LA; daughter, Melanie Lynn Whittington Graham of Greenwood, LA; and grandson, Dylan Michael Rogers-Graham of San Diego, CA and Lemoore, CA; nieces, Cheri Nesmith of Dawson, TX and Lindy White of OK; nephew, Bill Smith and wife Jan of Longview, TX.

Linda loved her mom and always loved to tell of her mom’s strengths and passions for nurturing and creating a loving childhood in their home. She loved to tell about her mom making all of her clothes by hand for every school and church function. She loved helping her mother cook for the holidays. Linda went to the only elementary school in the town of Greenwood, Louisiana as they were called the Bullfrogs. She graduated from Woodlawn High School Class of 1962. In her years after high school, she worked and cared for her family. She loved traveling, horseback riding, teaching, and cooking for family and friend gatherings. She loved her family even through good and trying times. She spent many years working as a secretary for Lyons Petroleum.

Linda loved being a mother to her son and daughter as there was football practice, dance recitals, and cake decorating classes between mother and daughter. She above all loved being a grandmother to Dylan. Linda started sitting with the elderly at the age of 53 as she couldn’t see to do secretarial and clerical jobs anymore due to becoming legally blind. She enjoyed sitting and helping the elderly most of all. She was involved in church and was young at heart with her group of acquaintances and friends in Greenwood, Louisiana. She loved being involved and helping serve the fire department thanksgiving meals and other meals with her church family at the Greenwood Methodist Church.

Honoring Linda as pallbearers will be Kyle Booker, Jamie Bragg, David Stone, Thomas Vaughan, Chuck Vaughan, and Gary Cook. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bill Vaughan, and Jason Matthew Whittington.
