BATON ROUGE, LA: Graveside services were held for Mrs. Lois Evelyn Bates McKenzie, 93, in the Adkins Cemetery near Homer on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. Ray Anderson, officiating.
Mrs. McKenzie passed away on September 6, 2016 in Baton Rouge at the Old Jefferson Community Care facility. She was born in Ringgold, LA on December 29, 1922 to Earvy and Mattie Skipper Bates. Mrs. McKenzie grew up with 2 older sisters, 1 older brother and 6 half brothers and sisters. She married Derrel McKenzie, Sr., on September 28, 1940.
Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Wanda Ray McKenzie.
She is survived by 2 sons, Derrel "Butch" McKenzie, Jr. and wife Betty, and Mark McKenzie and wife Sheila; a daughter, Sherry Smithey and husband Carl; six grandchildren, Holly Perrier, Brad McKenzie, Clayton McKenzie, Jesse Smithey, Alicia Fonte and Lauren Sagona; six great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
