FT. JESSUP, LA-Funeral services for Lonnie "Velvet" Durr will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 in Marthaville, LA at Jennings Chapel. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 5 PM until time of service at Jennings Chapel.
Lonnie Dalton Durr \"Velvet\"(66) of Ft. Jessup entered into eternal rest on August 11, 2017. Funeral arrangements handled by Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA. Brother David Hill and Brother Butch Bruce will be officiating at Jennings Chapel, Bethany Community-Marthaville, LA.
Lonnie was born May 19, 1951 in Converse, LA to J.W. Durr and Pearl Viola (Davis) Durr. He attended Marthaville Schools and was part of the last graduating class from Marthaville School in 1969. He married Barbara (Mertens) Durr of Bossier City, LA on September 14, 1972.
Lonnie was truly a small town country boy and did things his way. During his High School years he caught chickens to help provide for his family. He later worked for Conagra, then became an 18-wheel truck driver hauling wood chips. He later went to work for Jenkins Logging driving a log truck for over 21 years, finally retiring in April 2016 due to his failing health conditions.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, J.W. Durr and Pearl Viola (Davis) Durr of Marthaville, LA and son, Lonnie Dalton Durr Jr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara (Mertens) Durr of Ft. Jessup; sons, Jeffery (Jeff) Sullivan Durr and wife Tina of Fairview Alfa, LA, Wendal Stillman Durr and special friend John A. Martinez of Zwolle, LA; brothers, Jerry Durr of Shreveport, LA, Chester Terril Durr and wife Ion of Ebarb; sisters, Melva Jacobs of Castor, LA, Sarah Shoemaker and husband Kenny of Natchitoches, LA, and Teresa \"Tweet\" Broadway and husband Ricky of Marthaville, LA. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws, and his special pets, Bubba, Babe and Dolly D.
Pallbearers will be Buzz Jenkins, Ricky Broadway, Kevin Sullivan, Deric Myers, Dylan Myers, and Riley Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-laws, Otis Mertens and Glenn Barnes, Jim McArthur, Jimmy Parker and Johnny Jenkins.
