Loretta Mae Smith

In Loving Memory of Loretta Doughty Smith (May 10, 1935 – January 7, 2025)

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we share the peaceful passing of Loretta Doughty Smith on January 7, 2025. At the age of 89, Loretta left this world as she lived much of her life, surrounded by love and grace.

Born in the small, close-knit community of Port Hudson, Louisiana, on May 10, 1935, Loretta was a woman of unwavering faith and boundless love. She carried her strong convictions with humility and cherished her family deeply. Her laugh, quick wit, and ability to light up a room will be missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.

Preceding Loretta in death are her parents, Loyce William Doughty, Sr. and Alma Pittman Doughty; husband, Freddie J. Smith; son, Charles P. Gay; sister, Joyce Doughty Byram, and brothers, Loyce W. Doughty, Jr., Milton L. Doughty, Harold R. Doughty, and Charles E. Doughty.

Her family was her greatest treasure. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Williams, and husband, Gary of Bossier City; grandchildren, Garrett L. Williams and Gennifer L. Siegmund and husband, Joseph. She is also survived by her son, Mike Karageorge, and wife, Naoma of Boerne, Texas, and grandchildren, Sophia Mae Karageorge and Michael Karageorge. Remaining to celebrate her memory and legacy are Loretta’s siblings, Ann Ritchie, and husband, Buddy of Sulphur, LA, and Herbert “Wayne” Doughty and wife, Sue of Bossier City, LA.

Loretta was immensely proud and found great joy in the accomplishments of her grandchildren. She was also quite proud of her great-grandchildren, Brody Adeline Williams, Sol Jo Siegmund, Luc Siegmund, and Noa Siegmund. Loretta was cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.

Loretta’s life was enriched by her husband, Fred, a retired Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Together, they shared 39 years of marriage filled with adventure, laughter, and enduring love. Having preceded her in death, Loretta spoke often of the love, laughter, and joy they shared while traveling and spending time with their cherished family and friends.

Loretta will be remembered not only for her devotion to her family but also for her deep love of Christ. Her faith was her foundation, guiding her through life’s challenges with grace. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength.

Though we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing that Loretta is reunited with her beloved Fred and at peace in the arms of her Savior. As we celebrate her life, we are reminded to carry forward her spirit of faith, family, and joy.
