SHREVEPORT, LA - Louis Keller, Sr., 84, of Shreveport, LA, passed away on May 15, 2017, after a long struggle from complications of a stroke.
Louis was born, September 25, 1932 in Vacherie, LA to Noel and Luberta James Keller. Louis served in the United States Army. He became the first black Registrar of Voters in state of Louisiana since the Reconstruction Act; he served as Registrar in Orleans Parish for over 25 years. He loved writing, studying God's word, gardening and spending quality time with his family and friends. Louis recently wrote an autobiography entitled, With God's Daily Help, I Can Climb the Highest Mountain.
Preceding Louis in death are his parents, his wife of 57 years, Earline R. Keller; siblings, Bernard Keller, Noelie Bechnel, Armand Keller, Loretta Gross, Rosalie Joseph, Pauline Dumas, Johnny Keller, and Alvin Keller. Left to cherish Louis' memory are his children, Louis Keller, Jr., Joycelyn Williams and husband, Joseph, Glenn Keller and wife, Minne, Mary K. Grubbs, Dwayne Keller and wife, Sheila, and Darlene K. Alexander; grandchildren, Louis Keller III, Brandi Maxey, and husband, Micheal, Joseph Williams, Jr., Aaron Williams, Kenneth Grubbs, Jr. and wife, Kenyetta, Marcus Grubbs, Travis Grubbs, Arianna Keller, Dwayne A. Keller, Austin Alexander, and Justin Alexander; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Gufield Keller, and Elix Keller Sr.; sister, Mary L. Allen; sisters-in-law, Audrey Keller and Equilla Keller.
The visitation will be Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Summer Grove Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Murry Hodge officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery, Shreveport, LA.
