SHREVEPORT, LA. - Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Orbin Lee "Unkie" Crain, Jr., 95, beloved uncle to many and a man of faith, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 9, 2016 after a brief illness. Graveside funeral service with full Military Honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Pastor David Radford of North DeSoto Church of God and Deacon Homer Tucker of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Mr. Crain was born March 7, 1921, in Shreveport, LA to Orbin Lee Crain and Lillian Dixon Crain. He attended public schools in Shreveport, graduated from Fair Park High School, class of 1938 and went on to attend Louisiana Tech University where he was active in ROTC.
In the fall of 1941 when news broke of the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor Mr. Crain enlisted in the military. A combat veteran of World War ll he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater ultimately retiring having obtained the rank of Lt. Colonel with the now United States Air Force. He completed his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University and enjoyed a successful professional career as an engineer with Arkansas Fuel Oil (Arkla). Mr. Crain was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church, and also attended North DeSoto Church of God faithfully with his nephew Mark for many years.
Mr. Crain devoted his entire life to assisting his parents, his four siblings and other family members with all aspects of their lives. He was actively involved in our family and an example to all with his unconditional love, kindness and service.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his sisters, Leila Crain Roberts and her husband Robert F. Roberts and Nellie Crain Deal and husband Francis H. Deal, brothers, Urban R. Crain and Walter (Buddy) Crain
Survivors include his nephews, Mark Allen Roberts, Francis Henry Deal, Jr. and Jeffrey Lee Crain; his niece Linda Barrow and husband Tommy and Tammy Roberts; his sister-in-law Erma Crain and Pam Crain; his grand-nephews Mark Allen Roberts, Jr. and wife Natalie and Marshall Brown Roberts, Jeffery Crain, and Clay Crain; his grand-niece Kendall Roberts Hoyle and husband John; his great-great niece Charly Jo Hoyle; and his great-great nephews Mark Allen Roberts III and Rhodes Marshall Roberts.
A special heart felt thank you is extended to Dr. Loren Smith and his staff for their extraordinary care, compassion, love and kindness given to Unkie. The family's gratitude is also given to Dr. Scott McRight and his staff, and Dr. Marshall Frank. God blessed Unkie with two special angels on earth Paula Lawless and Jimmy Dragoo. The family also extends their gratitude to Pam Hagar, Ciara Cox, Melissa Garrett, and to the staff of Synergy Home Care.
