Lydia Eugenia Walker Cummings

Lydia (Gene) was born January 5, 1924 to Edgar Marvin McGilvray and Sarah Catherine Gunn McGilvray in Mt. Calm, Texas. She died June 2, 2018 in The Woodlands, Texas. She was a child of farmers and the depression. During WWII she worked at the North American Aviation Plant in Dallas, TX. After the war she moved to Shreveport to go to school to be a nurse. There she met and 6 months later married Harry B. Walker on June 11, 1949. They had five children. After the death of Harry Walker in 1967, she married Harold Cummings in 1970 and made a home in Sour Lake, TX. Lydia was an avid golfer who loved sewing, gardening, dancing, playing cards and traveling. She was a devout Catholic and a Dominican Lay person. God and family were the center of her life. She set an example on how to have strong faith in God and to be a great wife and mother. Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, her brothers, Benton, Durwood, Joe, and Charles McGilvray and her sister, Merle McGilvray Elgen. Surviving her are her children, Andrée Walker Caplis (Paul), Renée Walker Baldridge (David), Cherée Walker Page (Ron), Harry B. Walker, Jr. (Barbara) and Amorée Walker Collins (Jerry), 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation and Rosary will be held 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshal Street in Shreveport. A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Shreveport followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. Celebrating will be Msgr. Carson LaCaze. Donations may be made in Lydia\'s name to PACN, 26464 I-45 N, Spring, TX 77386
