Madlyn Harris Muench
Benson, LA - Funeral services honoring the life of Madlyn Harris Muench, 94, will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA with Reverend Delmon Rogers and Reverend Lee Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Benson Cemetery in Benson, LA. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 12:00 PM till 2:00 PM.
Madlyn was born on September 5, 1922 in Benson, LA to Wilburn P. and Madge B. Harris and passed away on January 9, 2017 in Benson, LA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Madlyn was an active member of Desoto Parish. She was a founding member of DeSoto Fire District 8, Waterworks District #1, and Desoto Communications District (E911). She also served on numerous committees which included Core Committee for Desoto Parish Sesquicentennial History Book, Civil War reenactment of Battle of Pleasant Hill Committee, Activities Committee American Legion Post 139. She submitted numerous articles to the DeSoto Parish History Book Vol. 1 & 2 relating to towns, early medical history of the doctors and families of DeSoto Parish. Madlyn was a member of Mansfield Garden Club, DeSoto Historical Society, Benson Baptist Church; where she made the floral arrangements for church services. She was an avid cook, a gardner, floral arranger and historian. She had a winning smile that would turn a stranger into a friend.
Preceding Madlyn in death were her husband, Donald R. Muench; parents, Wilburn and Madge Harris; son, Michael B. Muench; brother, Elbert F. Harris and sister, Dr. Nena Ashcraft.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son Randall P. Muench of Benson, LA; daughters, Louellyn Hale of Richmond, VA, Nancy M. Jeffers and husband Roy of High Point, NC; sister, Stella L.Wilkes of College Station, TX; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Those honoring the life of Madlyn as pallbearers will be DeSoto Parish District 8 Firefighters.
