Marcetta Francis Weaver

God Himself reached down from Heaven and lovingly embraced Marcetta Francis Weaver, one of His most prized possessions, and swept her up to Heaven with Him on May 8, 2015. Marcetta was born on February 24, 1914 and after a hundred and one years on this earth, was ready to claim her Heavenly reward--so don't cry for her, but rather- rejoice with her. She is finally at home and at peace. Home here on earth was Pecos, Texas for most of her life. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Texas. Nursing might have been the job she was "paid" for, but that certainly wasn't her highest calling. Above everything else, Marcetta Weaver was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She took each of these roles very seriously. She understood the value of family and spent her entire life contributing to building up the family she loved so dearly. In her younger days, she lived with her husband, Will Henry Weaver, who died in 2004, on their family ranch in Pecos. They raised cattle and also grass which Will used for developing the many golf courses he designed and built. Big Mema, as the grandchildren affectionately called her, stayed on the ranch and made sure everyone was well-fed. She cooked daily for the ranch hands and for all the family members there on the ranch. She always cooked enough to "help someone out" who needed a hand, whether it be a neighbor or a stranger passing through. I can almost taste her melt-in-your-mouth chicken and dumplings right now! And, of course, no meal was complete without a homemade dessert. Big Mema was not letting anyone go hungry on her watch. She and Will had one daughter, Linda Ann McIntire, a resident of Shreveport. Linda had two children, Billy McIntire, who died when he was twenty-one from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, and Leann Perry (husband Glen) who resides in Bossier City. Billy left one son, William "Little Billy" who together with his wife, Breanna, has three sons, Kolby, Kolton and Bentley, with another on the way (Brantley). Leann and Glen have two children, James "Bobo" Perry and Brandie, who has two children, Lane and Aaron. Marcetta is also survived by one sister, Bobbie Johnson, who lives in College Station, Texas. Will and Marcetta loved to travel. They would leave all the work behind and relax and rejuvenate on these travels. The grandchildren would always eagerly await their return because they never came home without special gifts. They were those grandparents who had a separate bag packed with goodies for the kids when they got home. Of course, life wasn't all about being showered with gifts when you lived with Marcetta. There was the matter of that slotted wooden spoon that was always hanging around waiting to be used to discipline those of us who engaged in a little back-talking, refusing to take a nap or any of those other mischievous things grandkids get into. Even so, the first time Leann ran away from home, she promptly left and went two doors down to Big Mema's house where she knew everything would be all better. In fact, she was probably needed there anyway because surely Big Mema was sewing some new outfit that she needed to try on. There were all the regular clothes, the rodeo outfits and, of course, the yearly white dress that Big Mema thought every girl should have, especially one who was going to grow up to be a fine Texas lady. Marcetta loved watching Texas Ranger baseball and Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers football and could cheer her teams on with the best of them. But she especially loved teaching everyone about Jesus and His love for them. She was Baptist, through and through and was still carrying and studying from her great-grandmother's Bible when she died. The only passages marked were the Ten Commandments. I can see her reviewing them over and over just to make sure they were a part of her heart. Big Mema enjoyed raising her roses and her tulips, which were some of the prettiest in Texas. She also enjoyed the old country music artists like Shelly and Dottie West, Jim Reeves and so many more that she continued to listen to her whole life. In fact, I bet she smells some sweet, sweet roses right now while she listens to Jim Reeves singing gospel songs to her from her kitchen table while she's sitting on the counter stirring up a big pot of chicken and dumplings. I thank God that one day, I'll be sitting there at that table with all her family and friends that have gone ahead, watching her cook for the big reunion. I'm sure she's bending God's ear about her plans for the menu already!   Rose-Neath Southside 2500 Southside Drive 318-687-1256
