Funeral services for Margaret Ann Averett will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Logansport, Louisiana with Reverend Nancy Wofford officiating. Burial will follow at the O.E. Price Cemetery in Logansport, Louisiana. Family to receive friends for visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019.
Margaret was born on December 24, 1949 in Crowley, Louisiana to Rogers Barousse Hornsby and Inez MacKool. She entered into rest on June 18, 2019 in Logansport, Louisiana. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers Hornsby of Mansfield, Louisiana; and in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Caraway Averett of Logansport, Louisiana.
Margaret worked at the DeSoto Parish schoolboard from 1970 to 1979 overseeing payroll in the bookkeeping department. She then went on to work as a paraprofessional at Stanley High School in Stanley, Louisiana from 1979 to 1984. Mrs. Averett finished out her career with twenty years of teaching fifth grade math at Logansport High School. She worked a total of thirty-seven years for the DeSoto Parish School System.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 45 years, Jack Caraway Averett, Jr.; sons, Jack Brian Averett and wife, Courtney of Logansport, Louisiana, Chad Joseph Averett and wife, Melody of Logansport, Louisiana; brothers, David Hornsby and wife, Vivian of Mansfield, Louisiana, Kerry Hornsby and wife, Darlene of Keithville, Louisiana, and John R. Hornsby and Thersa Sanders of White House Texas; grandchildren, Hadlee Grace Averett, Lillee Ann Averett, and Jackson Cade Averett of Logansport, Louisiana; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Honoring Mrs. Averett as pallbearers will be Ryan Bagley, Justin Hornsby, Davey Hornsby, Christopher Smith, Payton Guy, and Leighton Dillard.
