Funeral services were held for Margaret Amos Garcia, 83, at the First Presbyterian Church, 618 N. 2nd St in Homer on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John McClelland, officiating. Interment followed at the Homer Arlington Cemetery. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 E. 5th St, Homer on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Garcia was born March 24, 1930 and she passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14th at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Health Center in Shreveport. Since the inception of Garcia Construction in 1972, she has worked with her family for the past 42 years. Mrs. Garcia was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a great friend to all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Wilfred "Shorty" Garcia.
She is survived by one son, James Garcia and wife, Jennifer of Homer; one daughter, Jenny Garcia Morgan and husband, Guy of Homer; grandchildren, Andy Garcia and wife, Stephanie of Denham Springs, Jesse Garcia of Ruston, and Leslie Allen Brookshire and husband, J.W. of Shreveport; 4 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Max and King Garcia and Bryce Brookshire; and other relatives that were dear to her, Heath Heldreth, Erica Palmer and Kurt Heldreth.
Pallbearers were George Gamble, Larry Talley, David Hood, Russell Hightower, Howard Kennedy and Jack Phillips.
Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Garcia Construction.
