Margie Blackwell was born October 11, 1925 in Robeline, LA. She was a homemaker and resident of Homer from 1962-2007. She lived in Madison, AL for the last 15 years. She was an Air Force wife and traveled extensively with her husband, James, for 22 years living in FL, Puerto Rico, LA, and NE. She passed into Heaven on February 27th, 2023. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Homer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Blackwell, son, Jackie C. Blackwell, father, Willis Mitchell, mother, Stella Mitchell, and 9 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Larry Blackwell and his wife Mary Beth, grandchildren Larry Jr., Charles, Kelly Bennefield, and Kimberly, six great grandchildren, Ava and Andrew Blackwell, Christopher, Kathryn, Connor, and Brooke Bennefield and 3 step great, great grandchildren, Brady, Braxton, and Brooks Vanhoose and her sister Magdalene Delino of Abbeville, LA and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She was truly a member of the Greatest Generation, living through the Great Depression, and World War II supporting the war effort by working at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant. She loved travelling, cooking and being and mother and homemaker.
She was loved by so many and will be truly missed.
Memorial Services will be held for Margie at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA, on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Brian Thurmon, officiating. Inurnment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA.
In lieu of flowers honoring Margie, her family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Homer.
