Margie McDonald Smith died December 29, 2017 in Shreveport, LA following a lengthy illness. She was born June 9, 1929 in Converse, LA to Addice and Clara Heard McDonald. Graveside services will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Converse, LA at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, under the direction of Rose-Neath Southside. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Carraway. Margie graduated from Oak Grove High School and Mathieu Business College in Lake Charles, LA. She married Sherley G. Smith in Lake Charles. She was office manager for Layne Louisiana Well Services and upon her retirement, worked in the church office at University United Methodist Church. She remained in Lake Charles until the death of her husband in 1995 and then moved to Shreveport, LA to live with her sister. She worked in the church office at Noel United Methodist Church and provided private sitter services at Heritage Manor South for Tommie Cathey and also in the homes of others. Margie was a member of First Baptist Church in Shreveport. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Sherley Smith, and her brother, Bobby H. McDonald. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Audrey McDonald of Shreveport; brother, A.W. McDonald and wife Diane of Stonewall; sister-in-law, Lela McDonald Novak and husband John of Bossier City, LA; nieces, Kathy McDonald Lewis and husband Dr. David Lewis of Shreveport, Rose McDonald Garcia of Burleson, TX, and Robin McDonald Bagley and husband Christian of Burleson; nephews, Kyle McDonald and wife Tisdale of Ruston, LA and Ritchie McDonald of Oak Grove, LA; and numerous great-nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers will be Kyle McDonald, Ritchie McDonald, Kade McDonald, Kaleb Chandler, Dr. David Lewis, and Christian Bagley. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care given to Margie at Heritage Manor South. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
