Marie "Gran" Schelette O'Daniel

A graveside service will be held for Marie “Gran” Schelette O’Daniel, 92 will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Cemetery West, 4000 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana.

On Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the age of 92 years young, Marie went to heaven to reunite with her husband, Dean (85), and son, Michael (32), and, also, went to be with God after a short battle with cancer. She was married to her husband, Dean, for 65 years and has been a widow for over eight years. It was quite obvious she and Dean belonged together. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with her, and she enjoyed going to the hunting camp with him. She also diligently cared for him during his recovery years from a serious auto accident and during his many hospital stays. 

Marie was a great mother who taught her children well. Her grandchildren cherished her. She was known as “Gran” to all her grand and great-grandchildren. Her name has been carried on through her daughter, Donna Marie McKee, her granddaughter, Kimberly Marie McKee, and her great-granddaughter, Abigail Marie McKee. 

Marie had a career as an accountant, but in her leisure time, she painted canvases and ceramics and enjoyed cross-stitching. She and Dean enjoyed traveling to Colorado with their family and also enjoyed a brief period of “camping” via a travel trailer. She will forever be remembered for her pink salad.

Marie was preceded in death by her only son, Michael Dean; her husband, Leonard “Dean”; her mother and father, Clothilde and Walter Schelette, and her two brothers, Curtis “Coon” Wayne Schelette and Marvin Ray Schelette. She is survived by her daughter, Donna McKee; her husband, Michael; her daughter, Lori Winne; her grandchildren, Kimberly McKee, Bryan McKee, his wife, Courtney, Daniel McKee, his wife, Nicole, Courtney Scott, her husband, Darwin, Lindsey Stewart, and her husband, James, also by her great-grandchildren, Collin, Allie, Gracie, Sydney, Colton, Kingston, Sadie, Remi and the newest, Abigail.
