Marshall H. Hebert

Farewell...Mardi Gras is over. His work has been done. Marshall H. Hebert, 91, passed away on July 18, 2020 in Shreveport, LA after a brief illness. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Officiating will be Reverend Kevin Mues. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. He received an offer last Saturday that he could not refuse, an appointment that he will not be returning from. It does come with a huge bonus though... a reunion with family and friends that he has not seen in a long time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rena Hebert and Marshall Hebert Sr.; his brothers, Paul Hebert and Earl Hebert and his sister, Thelma Houseman. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Hebert; son, Mark Hebert and wife, Floy; grandchildren, Beau, Chris and wife, Katie, Drew and wife, Katelyn; great-grandchildren, Ella and Amelia; many nieces and nephews; the employees of Hebert's Town & Country; and the many friends he cherished throughout his life. Marshall was born in Shreveport, LA, specifically Cedar Grove of which he was proud. He played football at C.E. Byrd High School where he picked up the nickname "Booty" which his close friends still call him. Most of the rest of his family, nieces and nephews, affectionately add an "Uncle" in front. In 1964 he began a journey in the automobile business that lasted 56 years. He worked his way up the ladder from selling cars at RBW Motors to Sales Manager. In 1976 he became the General Manager at Bob Post Chrysler Plymouth and a few years later he became the owner. In 1999 Hebert's Town & Country was born in the Auto Mall and several years later a new Town & Country began in Minden. Marshall served the automobile business for most of his life. He was past President of the Shreveport-Bossier New Car Dealers Association, past Chairman of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, past President of the Chrysler Zone Advertising Association for 28 years, served on the National Chrysler Advertising Board, served on National Dealer Council, NADA Director for Louisiana for 19 years and Director of the Year in 2012, served on the LADA SIF Board for 38 years, served on the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission, became Louisiana Dealer of the Year in 2011. He was also president of Shreveport Country Club and a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. Marshall proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Marshall loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. His perfect day might be 18 holes of golf with his friends, a 10-car day at the dealership and a huge crawfish boil with his family. He enjoyed bowling when he was younger, camping, water skiing, and spending time at his camp on Big Cypress River where he spent many hours behind the BBQ grill. He loved LSU football and the New Orleans Saints and rarely missed a home game. His second home was New Orleans and how he loved that city. He loved to golf and had the good fortune to play all over the world. He has played with Arnie, Jack, and Chi Chi but loved playing with his Southern Trace golf buddies. He taught everyone that knew him many valuable lessons during his almost 92 years on this earth. His charm and wisdom made us all feel special and his unquestioned leadership was a gift that only a few possess. To steal a quote, "Marshall's loss is the end for us, but another beginning for him." An extraordinary man with a heart big enough to leave a huge impression on many of the friends he made along the way. Honoring Marshall as pallbearers will be Doug Durnin, Joe Greenwald, Jimmy Gosslee, Earl Hebert, John Hebert, Al LeGrand, John Meldrum, Charles Salley, and Todd Shores. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Al Hammett, Bob Israel, Claude Reynaud, Randy Richardson and his golf group. Cheers!!!
