A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Martha Elizabeth Ellis Lazarus, at the chapel of St. Michael the Archangel at St. John Berchmans Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. on Monday August 7, 2017. Monsignor J. Carson LaCaze will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Lazarus died on August 3, 2017. She was born on June 29, 1928, in Pearson, Miss., the daughter of Helen Louise Weinacker Ellis and William Van T. Ellis. She had lived in Shreveport since 1934. She graduated from St. Vincent\'s Academy in 1945 and attended Centenary College before marrying her husband of 71years, Allan M. Lazarus, in 1946. They were married in Denver, where he was with the Army Air Forces, then lived in Enid, Okla., before returning to Shreveport in 1947. Martha was treasurer and co-owner with her sister of Ellis Piston Ring Sales, an engine rebuilding company founded in 1936 by her father. She was bookkeeper at Ellis from 1968. She earned a diploma in higher accountancy from LaSalle Extension University. For many years she was a member of the Pelican Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She earned a medal for volunteering 1,750 hours at Overton Brooks VA Hospital. She is survived by her husband, one son, Kenneth Wayne Lazarus; a daughter, Virginia Lynn Lazarus; a sister, Helen Louise Ellis DeBeaux; nephews Buddy DeBeaux (Toya), Dr. Stephen Lazarus (Holly), and Bruce Lazarus (Debra), niece Suzanne Flores (Tom) and many grand- and great-nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
