Martha Jean McWhiney

Martha Jean McWhiney, age 75, of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on August 16, 2024. She was born on September 14, 1948, in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Willis and Margaret Lynch Salley. 

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Mark McWhiney. 

Martha was married to the late Thomas Larry McWhiney, Sr. She loved hair, makeup, and jewelry which inspired her to attend cosmetology school. Martha found her calling as an Avon Representative working comfortably at home. She loved all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Margaret Salley; husband, Thomas Larry McWhiney, Sr.; daughter, Cherri McWhiney; infant daughter, Angela McWhiney; sisters, Margaret Bozeman and Janice Chance; and brother, Charles Salley. 

She is survived by her sons, Thomas Larry McWhiney, Jr. and wife Christy, Jason Kyle McWhiney, and Joel Wayne McWhiney; daughter, Lari Jean McWhiney Marsh and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Thomas L. McWhiney III, Devin Mayfield, Caressa Williams, Colton Marsh, Cameron Marsh, Lariah Marsh, and Lila Marsh; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; along with her best friend Earlene Atkins, thank you for being the Thelma to her Louise.
