SHREVEPORT, LA - Maureen "Marti" Roy Butt passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017, surrounded by her family, at the age of 68. Her death is mourned by so many, but especially by her husband Richard, and her daughter Molly Kimball. After nearly 20 years of living and working in Baton Rouge, including marketing and communications for Louisiana Home Builder's Association, Marti returned to her hometown of Shreveport where she worked with CIGNA HealthCare as Senior Account Manager as well as marketing and public relations. She then launched her own business, Creative Concepts, a writing, design, and desktop publishing firm, working with organizations including Red River Association of Health Underwriters, Southern Hills Business Association, and Ark-La-Tex Chapter Financial Planning Association.
Her "Sing Along with Marti" music ministry to seniors was one of her many passions, along with square dancing with Southern Swingers Square Dance Club, round dancing with Red River Rounders Round Dance Club, and singing with the Worship Choir at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Marti married Richard Butt in 2002, and has said that "one of her greatest accomplishments was marrying a wonderful Christian man who loves spoiling me." Together they enjoyed dancing, "junk-tiquing" at flea markets and estate sales, and fellowship with their church family at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Loving, loyal, and empathetic, Marti had a passion for community service, generously giving her time to others, especially helping those in need. Marti was multi-talented, overflowing with artistic creativity, evident in her many paintings and colorings over the years. From serious to silly, Marti could be polished and professional when the situation called for it, and shortly thereafter, might be dressed as a clown for a square dance party. Her life philosophy: "Enjoy each day of God's blessings, trying to sprinkle sunshine, joy, fun, blessings and foolishness."
Marti is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Molly Kimball and son-in-law Brad Schlotterer, mother Theresa Roy, siblings Bob Roy, Barbara Roy, and Jim Roy, and a loving network of friends.
The family would like to thank the many incredible and compassionate doctors, nurses, and aides who supported her throughout her journey, especially Timothy Nicholls, MD, Jonathan Richards, MD, and Regina Tramiel - their care and commitment meant the world to Marti and our family.
She will be deeply missed by friends and family, but her legacy of love and joyful service to others will live on far beyond her lifetime.
Visitation is scheduled for 11am - 1pm on Monday, January 16, at Broadmoor Baptist Church4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71105. Services will follow at 1pm; Pastor Tom Harrison will officiate. Prayer and interment will take place at Summer Grove Cemetery.
