Funeral services for Marvie Gay Cole Mitchell, 98, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Brookwood Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. John Harp. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at Brookwood Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mitchell was born October 22, 1918 in Ringgold, LA to Jimmy Gay and Ceola Conly Gay. She went to East Point School (Riverdale Academy), class of 1936. She loved her family. One of her favorite things to do was to cook a meal to bring them together. She worked at Sears for over 30 years. She attended Ingleside and Brookwood Baptist Church. She was a very faithful and active member where she was a Sunday School Teacher and sang in the Senior Adult Choir. She was a very loving wife, cherished mother, respected sister, doting grandmother, caring aunt, and faithful friend. She lived a full life and was prepared to go home with her Lord.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by Augustus Clay Cole of 29 years and Robert (Bob) Mitchell of 31 years; son, Rev. Howard E. Cole and wife Marian G. Cole; daughter in law, Gabriele Cole; daughter, Jan McFerren and husband Wayne; grandson, Chad Davis; sister, Grace Worley; brothers, Talton Gay and Wayne Gay. Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her son, Garry Cole and wife Beverly of Natchitoches, LA; daughter, Cynthia Brogdon and husband Kelley of Shreveport, LA; son, Eddie Mitchell of Shreveport, LA; daughter in law, Donna Ferqueron Cole; grandchildren, Clay Cole and his wife Kay of Lake Charles, LA, Gina Cole and Brent of West Monroe, LA, Howard Cole Jr. and wife Tammy of Haynesville, LA, ADonna Lewing and husband Rodney of Shreveport, LA, James Cole and wife Paula of Brandon, MS, Eugene Mitchell of Shreveport, LA, Suzanne Mitchell of Shreveport, LA, Debbie McAnelly and husband Gary of Shreveport, LA, Janet McFerren, Jeff McFerren, Michael McFerren and wife Angela of Stonewall, LA; 12 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was also survived by her sister, Jean Hood of Bryceland, LA; brother, Jimmy Gay and wife Jan of Bossier City, LA; sister in law, Joann Gay of Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Spring Lake on Line Ave. for their care and attention to Mrs. Mitchell.
Honoring Mrs. Mitchell as pallbearers are her grandsons, Howard Cole, James Cole, Rodney Lewing, Michael McFerren and Clay Cole. Honorary pallbearer is Kelley Brogdon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Brookwood Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Marvie Mitchell.
