Simsboro - Funeral services will be held for Mary Cathey, age 88, at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Simsboro First Baptist Church. Bro. Wilton Wall and Bro. Jason Cole will officiate. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Friday. Pie and coffee will be served after graveside services at Creekwood Gardens, 2146 Hwy 147, Simsboro, LA, for a time of celebration and fellowship.
Mary was born July 30, 1928, to W.I. McClellan and Mattie Johnson McClellan in Plain Dealing, LA. She passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, in Simsboro. Mary worked for 5 years as a secretary at A.E. Phillips on LA Tech campus, and for 26 years as a secretary for Simsboro High School. She was part of the Simsboro High School Alumni Association. Mary was a very active member of Simsboro First Baptist Church. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality. She taught Sunday school, taught bible school and served on many committees. She loved to visit for the church and used every Tuesday to partner with her friends to visit others in need. At any given time of day, if you stopped by her house, she would have coffee and a sweet ready.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Malcolm Cathey and by 6 siblings.
She is survived by her sons Ronnie Cathey and Gary Cathey and wife Amy, daughter Pam Jones and husband Mike, grandchildren Alisha Duke and husband Michael, Kelly Hammond and husband Ryan, Maggie Raab and husband Jeremiah, Caty Simmons and husband Jacob, Michelle Landry and husband Jacob and William Jones, by great-grandchildren Eason, Gannon and Enley Duke, Tate and Mary Mac Hammond, Keller, Sterling and Holland Raab, Sutton Simmons, Lily Cate and Shepherd Landry, and by numerous other nieces, nephews and other family and loving friends.
Pallbearers will be Toby Polman, Toby Hammons, Clark Canterbury, Daniel Durrett, Tony Durrett and Ricky Durrett. Honorary pallbearer will be Deric Talbert.
The family would like to thank her caretakers Debbie Thomas and Annie Lee Tibbs, for all the love and care they gave to Mary.
