SHREVEPORT, LA - Mary Lou Dickinson passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Glen Retirement home in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mary Lou was born in Alliance, Ohio on August 3, 1926 to Elizabeth George Johnson and Oliver Wendell Johnson. She was reared in Ohio surrounded by a large loving family. After graduating from Kent State University in the late 40s (where she was Homecoming Queen) she became a Stewardess for United Airlines and moved to a beach house in the Los Angeles area with five other Stewardesses who became her lifelong friends. During this time in Los Angeles she met and married William Julius Dickinson IV (Bill). Mary Lou was a kind and loving housewife, mother and grandmother. She never met a stranger and was always "Party Ready" to host a neighborhood cocktail party or a meeting of the Houston Republican Women's Club. It was at her home that her children's friends gathered whether it was a scout meeting or a dance with a live band.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her children Hollister Dickinson (Askew) Hennessy and her spouse, James Patrick Hennessy, and Stuart Graham Dickinson and spouse, Terry Simmons Dickinson. A memorial service will be held later this year at Put In Bay Ohio where the family spent many happy times.
