Mary Francis Grimes

A visitation for Mary Francis Grimes, 101, will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Mary will be laid to rest at West Union Cemetery in West Union, Iowa.

Mary was born on July 21, 1921 in Fullerton, Louisiana to James Elmo Richard and Minnie Beatrice Hayes Richard and passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mary graduated from DeRidder High School in 1939 and went to McNeese State University in Lake Charles. She married Gerald J. Grimes on May 15, 1946 and moved to his home town in Iowa. She wrote poetry and was published in several newspapers. She and her husband taught ballroom dancing for several years. She returned to Louisiana 20 years ago. She joined a Poetry Group at Centenary College and was active in a Bible Study Group at her apartment complex.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Tucker) Grimes; and son, Stephen Allen Grimes. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Stephanie Grimes; granddaughters, Chavonne Lout and Nichole Grimes; and great-grandchildren, Isabella Lout and William Lout.

The family would like to express special thanks to the St. Joseph Carpenter House Hospice for the excellent care and compassion given to Mary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the charity of their choice.
