Mary Catherine Baskin Harris A memorial service honoring the life of Mary Catherine Baskin Harris will be held Friday, October 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Cathedral. The Very Reverend Alston Johnson, Dean, will officiate. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Marshall Street on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Mrs. Harris passed away on October 21, 2015, following a brief illness. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the only child of Wilma Mauldin Baskin and William Travis Baskin, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Dudley Richard Meier, in 1985. Mrs. Harris was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School and attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. She was involved in numerous civic, religious, and cultural endeavors. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Altar Guild, the Cotillion Club, the English-Speaking Union, Shreveport-Bossier Community Renewal, the Shreveport Club, Second Thursday Book Club, the Shreveport Country Club, Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club, and was an emeritus member of the Demoiselle Club and a sustaining member of the Shreveport-Bossier Junior League. She was also on the Board of the Literacy Program of Centenary College, where she tutored students of all ages and in 2007 received the Tutor of the Year Award. In 1994 she married Lieutenant General Edgar Starr Harris, retired former Commander of the Eighth Air Force. They took wonderful trips together with their friends, but made their home in Shreveport. Mrs. Harris was a true blue friend and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Edgar Starr Harris; her daughter, Katherine Hicks Sale and husband Dr. Charles Fenner Sale of Shreveport; her grandchildren Catherine Sale Greene and husband Robert Byron Greene of Columbia, South Carolina; and Christopher Charles Sale, his wife Sarah Bookter Sale, and their daughter Margaret Bailey Sale of Shreveport. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert B. Greene, Rogers M. Prestridge, Charles F. Sale, Christopher C. Sale, Michael M. Sale, T. Jordan Sale, William M. Sale III, William M. Sale IV, Murray Viser, Henry W. Yarbrough, and Donald J. Zadeck. The family would like to express thanks and appreciation for the ladies whose kind care and devotion allowed Mary Catherine to remain comfortable in her home: Betty Robinson, Stacey Price, Lisa Peoples, Nina Gilmore, Lashonda Kelly, Franchika Beard, and Jazmine Ball. Thanks also to Antonio Tillman for years of devoted service. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Mark's Cathedral, 2785 Fairfield Ave., Shreveport, LA 71104.
