Mary Lee Hunter went home to be with her Savior on July 22, 2014, at her home in Minden, Louisiana after a lengthy illness. She was born on April 28, 1926, in Texarkana, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubbard Barnes and Ruth Duncan Stevenson, and her brothers Hubbard Barnes (H.B.) Stevenson and Troy Oliver Stevenson. She is survived by her husband, Leslie Eugene Hunter, of the home; brother Ross Sterling Stevenson (wife Alma) of Minden, Louisiana; daughter Teresa Lynne Degueurce (husband Francois) of Shreveport, Louisiana and son David Adrian Hunter (wife Susan) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; grandson Collin Degueurce (wife Margaret) of Thibodaux, Louisiana; granddaughters Bridgette Hunter of Waco, Texas and Jana Talley (husband Joel) of Sugar Land, Texas; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and cousins and extended family and friends. The family wishes to convey a sincere message of gratitude to Debbie Hunter Prince, a special cousin who gave loving care almost daily to Mary in the last several weeks of her life, to the nurses of Gamble Hospice Care, with special thanks to Donita and Carolyn, who were devoted to Mary, and to Dr. Carl Hines and his staff for their kindness and compassion. Mary graduated from Simsboro High School in 1943 and from Patten University, formerly Oakland Bible Institute, in Oakland, California, in 1946. While at Patten, she was personally chosen by the college founder, Bebe Patten, to be the pianist for the college choir at the age of 18, traveling the country to minister in music. She was a gifted singer and musician and an anointed preacher of the gospel in her early life. Many souls came to know the Lord under her ministry. She played the piano and sang in support of her husband's ministry at Assemblies of God churches for numerous years. She especially enjoyed hosting evangelists and missionaries as guests in her home when they held revivals at the church. She was a fabulous cook and a gifted fine artist and created many beautiful paintings that still grace the homes of friends and family. She was an incredibly kind, generous, selfless, and humble person, and she loved unconditionally. As the scripture says in Daniel 12:3, "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever."
