Funeral services for Martha McCullin Jones, 85, will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery.
Martha was born in Arcadia, Louisiana to George H. and Annie Mae Cherry McCullin on April 2, 1939. She graduated from Fair Park High School in 1957 and subsequently attended Ayers Business School. Initially hired as a typist at Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana, Martha began what was to become a 48-year career at the organization, where she soon moved into bookkeeping and eventually retired in 2007 as Accounts Payable Manager. It was at Goodwill that she met her future husband, Troy C. Jones, who offered her rides to work. They became fast friends, began dating and were married on April 7, 1959, beginning a nearly half-century union that lasted until his passing in 2008. Troy introduced Martha to the Assembly of God Church, and they were longtime members at the Glad Tidings congregation in Shreveport. They later moved to Foursquare Gospel Church. At both churches, Martha served as a beloved Sunday school teacher for young children. After Troy’s passing, Martha joined Gateway Church where she was active in the homebound ministry, volunteered in the office, and was quick to lend a hand to members in need.
Known for her cheerful demeanor and infectious laughter, Martha radiated warmth and love to those around her. She was passionate about Bible study and was always happy to share her love of the Lord. Throughout her life, she strove to embody the teachings of Jesus in her everyday actions.
In 2023, Martha moved to the Montclair Park Assisted Living facility. As she struggled with the effects of dementia, her longing for her beloved Troy increased, and she often expressed a desire to join him. On the evening of February 27, as she prepared for bed, she repeated this wish. Minutes later, and with her sister by her side, God mercifully answered her prayer.
Martha is survived by her sister, Cloie Martin of Shreveport and her special nephew, David Martin of Miami Beach, Florida. They would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Montclair Park Assisted Living -- including a special thanks to her friend and "angel" Erica Allen -- who treated Martha with loving kindness in her final years.
