Mary Sue May

Mary Sue Glover May was born on December 27, 1940, at her home in Winnfield, Louisiana. Born to James Gifford Glover and Nona Idell Wallace Glover. She went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Sue attended Noble High School where she met her high school sweetheart, James "Sonny" May. They married on February 3, 1957, and together they had 6 children. They spent their first years in Shreveport and moved to DeSoto Parish in 1966.

She was a homemaker until they acquired Hilltop Grocery, and she ran that for some years. She then went to work in the cafeteria at Stanley High School, and there she became MawMaw to all the children at Stanley High School. To this day, all her kids call her MawMaw, and remember how good the food was. Along with working at the school, she worked 2-3 additional jobs from restaurants, cleaning fish, and any other job to put food on her family's table. She retired from DeSoto Parish School Board, Stanley High School in 2002 after 26 years. She was a woman of faith and prayed for everyone daily. She had a direct line to the Lord. She was a member of Hunter Magnolia Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Gifford and Nona Idell Glover; husband James "Sonny" May; one son who died hours after birth; siblings, Bobbie Jean Marr, Sybline Roundtree, Catherine Glover Williams, Charles Edward Glover, JG Glover, Ray Glover, and son-in-law, Phil Gannon.
