SHREVEPORT, LA - Services celebrating the life of Mary McHalffey, 82, will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Rose-Neath Marshall St. Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent. Officiating will be Rev. Juan Huertas of Grace Community United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Rose-Neath Marshall St.
Mary was born January 29, 1935 in Shreveport, LA and went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 9, 2017. Mary achieved many accomplishments over the years and enjoyed providing service to others. She was on the Board of Directors for Wesla Credit Union for more than 30 years, which is the longest seated member in Wesla history. She was involved in providing Christmas boxes for Samaritan Purse and making quilts for Seven Stars Foundation military kids. She was a very active member of Grace Community United Methodist Church and was involved in many ministries in the church including Stephen Ministry Leadership and led a weekly bible study for a very close knit family of friends. Mary began her career as a professional seamstress followed by earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial engineering, ending her working career with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, L.B. and Lillian Thomas, brother-in-law, Wendell Smith, and son-in-law, Thomas Franklin Sands. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ronald Lewis McHalffey; sons, Mark McHalffey and wife Phyllis, Paul McHalffey and wife Shanna; daughters, Debra Klavohn and husband Terry, Donna Sepulvado and husband Bradley, Denise Sands and Cyle Cochran, Dianna Canady and husband Mark; grandchildren, Kyle Sands, Kaitlin Rawlinson, Kelley Sands, Christina Wentz, Kelsey McHalffey, Megan Sandifer, Hunter Sepulvado, Kendal Sands, Joshua McHalffey, and Sydney McHalffey; sister, Jacquelyn Thomas Smith; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Honoring Mary as pallbearers will be Kyle Sands, Kelley Sands, Hunter Sepulvado, Joshua McHalffey, Mason Glasscock, and Tommy Smith.
