Mary Corinne Rawls

Funeral services for Mary Corinne McCartney Rawls, 86, will be at 11:00 am on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 until 7:00 pm on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at Forest Park West. Mary was born on June 28, 1931 in Dodson, LA to Joe and Eunice Hughen. She retired from H&R Block after 35 years. Mary was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church and loved being part of her Sunday school class and all of the members of their class. She was a dedicated worker at Grawood Baptist Church nursey for many years and has taught and loved hundreds of children in her many years of service there. Mary was also a member of Eastern Star, Sunset Chapter #227 for many years and was a past worthy matron. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband of many years, James Richard McCartney Sr.; sisters, Doris Simmons, Sadie Taylor and Marsha Weins; sons, Robert and Rodger McCartney and son-in-law, Gerald Jacobs. Mary was survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, John Walter Rawls and children, James Richard McCartney Jr. and wife Debbie; Shelia Jacobs; Ronald McCartney; Susan Rawls Tubbs and husband Dave; David Rawls and wife Susan; Jeff Rawls and wife Donna; Lisa Lubbess and husband David. She was also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Granny will be remembered for her love of gardening, canning and for raising and caring for her roses. She loved quilting, crocheting and needle point. Granny always made special pies for her neighbors, friends and loved ones at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Our family would like to thank Summer Grove Baptist Church Sunday School class, members of Sunset Star chapter #227 and many friends and neighbors for their thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
