Mary Alice Rogers Sutton, 89 years old died on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Glen in Shreveport, Louisiana, after several years of heart issues, battling stroke after effects and dementia.
Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 beginning at 12:30 p.m. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. followed by a private family burial. The funeral will be presided over by Rev. Kaylan Walker, Associate Pastor at Noel Memorial Methodist Church and Rev. Dalton Lewis, Pastor Gladstone Community Church.
Mary had a strong will to live, with faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many others.
Mary was born on March 7, 1935, outside Hope, Arkansas to Olive and Cecil Rogers, the older sister to her brother, James Cecil.
Mary always took great pride in a work ethic that came naturally to her at an early age. She took on the tasks of cooking and cleaning for her family as a teenager. The same work ethic only got stronger as she grew older. She worked in the family business from the time it began until Covid began in 2020 forcing change. She was always very involved in the school life of her children, serving in the PTA as President many times.
Mary married Howard E. Sutton on November 23, 1952 and were married over 72 years. Mary's greatest joy was being a wife and mother. Always putting her family first until the very end being sure they each understood the importance of God, family, and home. Always trying her best to lead by example.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Hal Sutton and wife, Stacy, Debbie Covington and husband, C. Kenneth Covington, and Pam Shapen and husband, Ken Shapen. The grandmother role was pure joy for mom. None of these young people could have brought her more smiles, laughs and pure joy! Vaughn Shapen, Kyle Shapen, Blake Shapen, Samantha Sutton, Sadie Sutton, Sara Sutton Riley, and Holt Sutton along with step-granddaughter Katherine Coker, great-grandchildren, Taytum and Ashton. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Martha Sutton Maple; nephews, Stan Smith, Paul Cox and Ray Rogers and wife, Mary Rogers; niece, Diane Ward and husband, Ronnie and many others that she loves.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse (Franklin Graham's ministry), P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or the Noel Food Pantry, 520 Herndon St., Shreveport, LA 71101 where the family has been members for over 40 years.
We would also like to thank Paula Lawless for her amazing love and care, she gave our mom over the last few years. Also, Dr. Paul "Corky" Davis, Amanda Lewis and the Team at Advanced Cardiac Specialists, the nurses at Christus over the last few years, the staff and care team at the Glen, and the Golden Gate nursing sitters, especially Ruby. Also, longtime family friend, Lillie Dotson who loves and cares for our family.
Just like from the song, "A Mother's Love" thank you for watching over us...we thank God for our Mother's love.
