Shreveport, La - Mary Varner Skipworth Winstead, fondly know as Mrs. Skip, went home today to be with the Lord. Mary was born on October 6, 1918 and passed away on August 25, 2015. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at Forest Park West Cemetery. The family will have visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home.
While Mrs. Skip owned Skip's Stop and Shop, she served her neighborhood as the go to person if you has a personal problem or were a little short on funds for groceries. She would always help those who needed a little boost. She was never too busy to listen to her children, grandchildren, or her friends. She was always encouraging and had a generous heart for everyone.
Mrs. Skip was preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, Ray Edwin Skipworth, and her highschool sweetheart and second husband, Brantley Winstead. Mary is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Dudley, and son and his wife, Paul and Shirley Skipworth. Her grandchildren are L.G. Dudley and his wife, Jodie, Kim Adams and husband Vic, and Kristy Dudley Hall, Douglas Skipworth and wife Merrill, and Fred Skipworth. Mrs. Skip has 10 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Heritage Manor Stratmore for the wonderful life they helped Mrs. Skip have in her stay with them. Also, Life Path Hospice, especially Lauran.
