Mattie Carroll

Graveside service will be held for Mattie Carroll, 88, of Athens, LA at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Atkins Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Davidson will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Mattie was born on September 22, 1936, to Charles Spurgeon Pate and Minnie Leona Anglin Pate. She was the eldest of six children. She entered into rest on Saturday, January 25, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Herley Y. Carroll, Sr.; her parents, Charles and Minnie Anglin Pate; sister, Bernice Pate Lewis; brother, Sidney Pate; and by two brothers-in-law, Butch Casey and Billie Lewis.

She is survived by her daughter, Terrie L. Carroll of Athens, LA; two sons, Rodney A. Carroll and Herley Y. Carroll, Jr., both of Athens, LA; sisters, Nancy Casey of Hurricane, LA and Patsy Lee and husband Bill of Taylor, AR.; brother, Andy Pate and wife Deloris of Athens, LA; and by several nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Honoring Mattie as pallbearers will be Lee Carroll, Jay Carter, Ken McBride, Jr., Scott Bordelon, Raine Bordelon, and Paul Sanford.
