Max G. \'Pete\' Erwin, 93, of Shreveport, LA. passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 17, 2020.
He was born Feb. 9, 1927 in Gilmer, TX. to John Harris Erwin and Ada Simpson Erwin. Pete was raised on the family farm and attended Harmony High School where he graduated in 1944. He then joined the Navy and served his country during WW II. Pete met and married Jean Lloyd in 1947 and they were married for 64 years until her death in 2012.
Pete hired out with the Texas and Pacific Railroad in 1947 in Longview, TX. and a short time later transferred to Shreveport and worked as a Switchman, Brakeman and Conductor with the Texas and Pacific, Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1989 with 42 years of service. Pete was a kind and gentle man with a big heart who loved his family, his many friends, and his church family. He was a dedicated member of Pinecroft Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for several decades.
Pete enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golf, riding his motorcycle and traveling, either by vehicle with his wife or riding his motorcycle with his brothers and friends, always heading out West or to the mountain country looking for adventure.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Erwin and Ada Erwin, wife Jean Erwin; brothers, J.H. Erwin Jr., Jack D. Erwin, Tom S. Erwin, Dick K. Erwin and sister, Vera N. Davis. He is survived by his two sons, Larry G. Erwin and wife Dickie of Bossier City, La. and Mike L. Erwin and wife Marty of Longview, TX.; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held for Pete on Sunday, June 28th at 2:30 p.m. at Pinecroft Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Dr. Steve Pettey and assisting will be Pastor Cecil Marr. The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Pete\'s good friend Ms. Mary Beech for all her help the past few years and months, and to the many good friends and members of Pinecroft Baptist Church.
