He grew up in the Queensborough neighborhood and attended Queensborough Elementary School, Lakeshore Junior High School, and graduated from Fair Park High School in 1956. After graduating from high school, Max enlisted in the United States Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. After his discharge from the military, he returned home to Shreveport and married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Bromell. He and Patsy celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past June. Max joined the Shreveport Fire Department August 18, 1961, and spent most of his career at Fire Station 14. He achieved the rank of District Chief and retired from the SFD in 1994 after 33 years of faithful service. He and Patsy were longtime members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport where Max was a devoted member of the Gaddis Sunday School class. Max's greatest joy in life was his family. He loved his sons and spent their childhood volunteering as a coach for their football and baseball teams. He also loved his three granddaughters and never missed a game, cheerleading event, dance recital, or activity in which they were participating. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Rains and Robert Pierce Shaw and by his older brother, Bobby Ray Shaw. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Bromell Shaw, and his two sons, Lonnie Shaw and wife Kelli, and Max Shaw, Jr. He is also survived by his three granddaughters, Caroline Shaw Colvin and her husband Cameron, Catherine Shaw, and Mary Claire Shaw. He leaves behind many friends and family members including a very special nephew, Tracy Wayne Smith, his wife Emily, their daughters Katie, Maddie, and Meghan, and a beloved aunt, Mary Sue Shaw Klinger. Serving as Max's pallbearers will be Wayne Smith, Tracy Smith, Bill Greene, Roy Cordray, John Liles, Sammy Deeds, Larry Gilley, and Mike Gaddis. The family would like to thank Dr. Manish Dhawan, his PA Lauren Scheffy, and Dr. Anthony Stewart. Also, special thanks to the nurses from Southern Care Hospice-- specifically Belinda, Michelle, and Anita--for their compassion, love, and devotion to Max in his last days. Memorials may be made to the Children's Ministry or the Prime Timers Ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.
