Melva Crawford

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of Melva F. Jones Crawford, 80, will be held at 12 Noon, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Bro. Joe Bob Alexander will be officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Ground Cemetery in Bryceland, LA. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Melva was born August 29, 1936 in Shreveport, to Virgil and Celestie Jones, and passed away March 19, 2017 after a short illness. Melva worked at Schumpert Medical Center as a medical coder for over 40 years. She was a longtime member of Brookwood Baptist Church. Melva was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Harrison Jones and Celestie Mae Taylor Jones; her husband of 18 years, Samuel Crawford; son, Kenneth (Cyril) Crawford; and sister, Joyce Jones Cardin. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Kelems and husband, Tom; 3 grandchildren, Ashlyn, Leighton, and Carson Kelems; one brother, Cecil Jones; sisters, Annice Tassin Carolyn Flint, Martha Culpepper and husband, Hershel, and Linda Sue Jones; long-time special friend, Ray McMullen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Abbey, Covington, LA; Shriner's Hospital for Children or charity of donor's choice.
