Melvis Katherine Baxter
HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Melvis Katherine Wynn Mills Baxter, age 92, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, LA, on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Brandon, officiated. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service.
Melvis was born May 13, 1929, in Spearsville, LA, to Henry Cuff Wynn and Gladys Vela McCullar and passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021, in Ruston, LA. Melvis loved her Lord, for Whom she served with passion teaching Sunday School since she was fifteen years of age and continued at Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation where she was a resident. She married John Otis Mills October 15, 1944. They were married 42 wonderful years and served the Lord alongside of each other. She married Marion Dale Baxter November 29, 1991. They were married 25 enjoyable years.
Melvis was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Cuff Wynn and Gladys Vela McCullar; first husband, John Otis Mills; second husband Marion Dale Baxter; brother, Emory Lee Freeman; two sisters, Evelyn Glass and Climmie Beardon; grandson, Johnny Dale Mills; son-in-law, Manuel Lee Ward; and two daughters-in-law, Barbara Diane Mills and Barbara Lynn Mills.
She is survived by her two daughters, Katherine "Kathye" Ann Ward of West Monroe, LA, and Tammie Mills McCann and husband Gary of Ruston, LA; two sons, John "Johnny" Henry Mills and wife Betty of Homer, LA, and Otis Dewayne Mills and wife Debra of Ruston, LA; a sister, Margaret Crotwell of Brusly, LA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Honoring Melvis as pallbearers were Steven Ward, Michael Ward, Ragan McCann, O'Neil Fox, Austin Forney, William Norman, Michael Shayne Ward, and Isaiah Ward.
The family would like to express special thanks to the caregivers and friends at Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation for their love and compassion shown for our precious mother and sister.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. Baxter, her family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
