Merle (Muriel) Marie Carnahan

Muriel "Merle" Marie Carnahan died June 11, 2020 in Castle Rock, Colorado after a brief illness. Born February 6, 1927 in Vivian, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late William Harrison and Emma Toombs Carlisle. She was married to the late Douglas Everett Carnahan and lived most of her life in Mansfield, Louisiana. She worked as the secretary of Pelican High School where she was recognized for her skills at managing both the administrative and student aspects of school life. Even after her retirement, students would greet her on the street and in stores to tell her of their appreciation of the manner in which she carried out her work. In addition, Muriel and Douglas served as foster parents to several children in need. She also cared for the children's nursery at the Pelican Baptist Church for more the 50 years until her move to Nashville, Tennessee in 2012 to be closer to her son the Reverend Charles Carnahan. In 2019, she moved to Castle Rock, Colorado near her son Douglas Everett Carnahan, Jr. Survivors include son Douglas E. Carnahan, Jr. and wife Patricia, of Larkspur, CO; son the Reverend Charles R. Carnahan and partner Paul Snively of Palm Springs, CA; sister Mable Traw of Lakewood, CO; grand-daughter Laura Carnahan Dole and husband Andrew Dole of Castle Rock, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath's Mansfield Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm Thursday, June 18. In view of the Covid19 virus, a private graveside service and interment will be held, Friday, June 19 at the Highland Cemetery, Mansfield.
