Merrilee Grace Hughes Warren, 84, died on July 26, 2016. Visitation with family and friends will be Friday, July 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Services will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Barbara Driscoll, Pastor of Broadmoor Christian Church, will officiate. She will be assisted by Dr. Graham Riggs of First Christian Church of Bossier City. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA. She was born in Shreveport, LA on May 15, 1932 to Frank King Hughes and Elizabeth Pettet Hughes. She was a graduate of Benton High School, Benton LA. She earned a Bachelor\'s Degree in Education from Centenary College of Louisiana, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She obtained a Master\'s Degree in Counseling at Louisiana Tech University. Merrilee was a teacher in Shreveport, Bossier City, Benton, and Haughton, and a High School Counselor at Haughton High School for over 17 years. Merrilee was a wife, mother, teacher, counselor, and church elder who touched the lives of so many people. We will miss her tender, loving care and wise counsel, but most of all, we will miss her presence in our lives. Merrilee was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ted and Grace Pettet, and Frank and Willow Hughes, also her parents, her infant sister, Willow Bess Hughes, and sister, Judy Hughes McCallon. She is survived by her husband, Gary C. "G.C." Warren, her daughter, Shari Warren French, and husband Ricky, of Greenville, MS, her sons, Dr. Ted Broox Warren and wife, Lesa, of Shreveport, LA, Gary Hughes Warren and wife, Carole, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Bill King Warren and wife, Beth, of Baton Rouge, LA; her grandchildren, Jenny Warren, Rebekah Warren Miller, and husband, Clay, Travis Warren and wife, Lauren, Broox Warren, Broox Crain, William Warren, Caroline Warren, Georgia Grace "GiGi" Warren; and great -grandchild, Elle Broox Warren. Merrilee is also survived by her brothers, Dr. Ted Pettet Hughes and wife, Bonnie, and Dr. Frank Broox Hughes and wife, Mary, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thanks to son, Dr. Ted Warren, and to Dr. John Brady, Dr. Paul Cole, Dr. Raghu Nathan, Dr. Wen Liu, Dr. Paul Schuler, Dr. Kamlesh Jani, Missy Durbin, RN, and all of her other caregivers, for their loving concern and treatment. The family's deepest loving gratitude goes to Lisa "Hutch" Matthews for her love and care during her illness. The family wants to say a special thank you to Merrilee's sister-in-law of 49 years, Mary Sorrows Hughes, who was instrumental in compiling the entire Hughes and Pettet family genealogy with Merrilee's assistance in providing hundreds of pictures and information on who they were. Special thanks to the nursing staff at The Glen Retirement System for their care and compassion. Honoring Merrilee as pallbearers will be Broox Hughes, Scott McCallon, Shawn McCallon, Stan McCallon, Broox Warren, and Travis Warren. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bill Coyer, Ricky French, Mike Guess, Tommy Patton, and Randy Shouse. The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Louisiana Baptist Children\'s Home, P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211.
