Michael DeWayne Ashby was born October 24, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Alton M. Ashby Sr. and Aline Marie Perry Ashby. He passed away peacefully in his home, Saturday, March 29, 2025 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mike grew up in Blanchard, Louisiana where he was in the first graduating class at Northwood High School in 1968. He met his wife, Lynne, in July of 1976. Mike and Lynne were married on March 12, 1977.

Mike started his 31 year career at General Motors in October 1981 and retired in August 2012. He had a strong work ethic and rarely would miss a day. This work ethic was instilled into his sons, and he didn’t hesitate to tell a stranger that he retired from the GM plant. While at GM, Mike attended a total of 81 Life Care Blood drives where he donated ten gallons and one pint of his Type 0 negative blood saving up to 243 lives. He enjoyed having a cup of coffee from his ten-gallon donor mug. After retiring, he kept busy with his yardwork where he cut down trees and raked and burned leaves. He always made sure the yard was well maintained.

Mike spent many years coaching his sons in youth football and basketball. During that time, he also enjoyed refereeing, where he was a stickler for rules. He loved and looked forward to the Ashby family dove hunt tradition where he never missed an opening day and would often spend three rounds on a low bird. Fishing was one of his greatest passions whether it was running yo-yos with the church men or bass fishing with his sons. He never failed to land the last bass on his trusty spinnerbait. Most evenings you could catch him over at the Tator Patch spending time with his brothers. He was a major LSU fan, although he couldn’t stand to watch the games for how stressed it would make him because he wanted them to win so badly. You could always catch him in purple and gold!

At Christmas, he had the perfect cadence for calling out all the kids’ names to come get their presents. At Easter, he ensured all the eggs were hidden and all the prize eggs were accounted for.

Mike was always willing to help anyone when needed whether it was helping nieces or nephews move, Nate with his airplanes, or working on vehicles with his sons. He was always happy to help his neighbors with anything they needed.

Mike loved Lynne immensely and was always happy to provide for her. He spent five years caring for her while she was battling cancer, taking her to and from appointments and serving her in the home.

He sure loved his kids and grandkids. His greatest title was being a dad and a pawpaw. He was quick to offer his support whether it be at any Grandparent’s Day at their schools or any other event. They were his pride and joy.

~Like I said.~

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton M Ashby Sr. and Aline Marie; wife, Lynne Martin Ashby and one brother, Nathan Ashby.

Honoring Mike as pallbearers will be grandson, Gunner Ashby; nephews, Jason Ashby, Josh Ashby, Colton Fulco, Jeremy Ashby, Jeremiah Johnson, Tyler Ashby and neighbor and friend, Paul Clark. Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Levi Ashby.

The family would like to thank Willis Knighton Hospice of Louisiana and Christina Graham, RN for making it possible for Mike to pass peacefully at home with his family.
